What an Independent Medical Examination Involves

An independent medical examination is not therapy. It is a structured evaluation used to answer specific clinical, legal, disability, workplace, insurance, or benefits-related questions. We review the referral issue, relevant records, symptom history, mental health history, work or service background, and current functioning.
An independent medical evaluation may help clarify how anxiety, PTSD, chronic pain, injury, depression, adjustment concerns, or trauma-related symptoms affect daily life. We focus on accuracy, consistency, and professional objectivity. That matters because decisions may depend on clear clinical findings and a well-supported report.

Psychological Evaluation for Injury and Chronic Pain

Mental health symptoms often interact with physical conditions. Chronic pain can affect sleep, concentration, mood, relationships, work capacity, and quality of life. An injury may also create fear of reinjury, irritability, avoidance, or emotional distress. During an IME, Dr. Robinson evaluates these connections without assuming that one explanation fits every person.
We consider symptom onset, treatment history, functional limitations, coping strategies, and available documentation. When appropriate, we also assess whether psychological symptoms contribute to disability, recovery barriers, or changes in daily functioning.

Support for Veterans

Veterans may need evaluations related to PTSD and service-connected symptoms, including the psychological impact of traumatic experiences. These evaluations require careful interviewing, strong knowledge the military culture, and familiarity with reviewing military medical records.

Clear Reports and Professional Objectivity

A strong report explains findings, addresses the referral questions, and connects conclusions to records, interview data, and clinical reasoning. We work to provide clear, balanced documentation that attorneys, agencies, insurers, employers, or referral sources can understand.
